It's BORING. Every day you plot the position onto the chart and you realize that you are not much closer to the end than the day before. In the last 24 hours you covered 80 miles and there is still 2400 to go...
It's bloody SCARY. There are those black nights with gale force winds and huge waves, when you are terrified and you make a big promise to yourself: "If I survive this, I will never go to sea again!"
It's PEACEFUL. There is nothing around you, just the sun and the sea and the clouds and the wind. You become one with the elements and forget about everything else that is going on in the "real" world.
It's HARD WORK. You get thrown around a lot and your muscles are working all the time. It's difficult to sleep, to cook, to do anything.
It is also PURE HAPPINESS. There was a moment in the middle of the Pacific... I was standing on the boomkin of my boat, under the afternoon sun,  the sparkling sea around me, the fresh breeze on my face. the sails perfectly trimmed. I was dancing and singing out loud, completely naked. My heart wanted to explode and my eyes got filled with tears of happiness. It's certainly something you will NEVER FORGET.
