Simply Pets Books publishes books of interest to petparents—books that belong in the place where HAPPY lives! We are building an eclectic inventory of genres, but all our titles are family friendly, uplifting, and related to animals. Join our mailing list to be among the first to know about new releases.
Simply Pets Books Simply Pets has two imprints: Simply Pets Books Traditional, a conventional publishing model, and Simply Pets Books Innovative, a collaborative publishing model. Books for both imprints meet the same high standards and go through the same rigorous process. We publish fiction and nonfiction books of interest to petparents—whether it’s the story of life with a petkid, advice from a vet or other pet professional, a child’s imaginary adventure with animals, a collection of poems about animals, a novel with a pet as the heroine’s sidekick, something about the human-animal bond, or an idea we haven’t even imagined. We will reject books that contain explicit sex and violence or other material deemed objectionable. The launch book, Lisa and the Pet Detectives and Their Camping Adventure, is the first in a series of children’s books written by Lisa Smith Putnam {LSP}. It has been serialized in Simply Pets Magazine before being published as a book. There are nine more books in the Lisa and the Pet Detective series. The second book published is Mercury & Sirius, written by the editor of Simply Pets Kids, Debbie Garcia-Bengochea, the cofounder of Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses. Tens of thousands of people engage with the horses each year, and the charity has received extensive media coverage, opening the door for promotion and sales.
A memoir about dogs and skijoring written by a magazine contributing writer will begin publication shortly to release in early 2020. The next book will be a collection of recipes for both people and animals by Chef Christophe. Other books—including a coffee table photography book and a book about the rescue of a large number of abused animals—are pending review. These authors have approached us before we even announced the book publishing division. Thanks for stopping by!

Mercury and Sirius

Sirius is a Maremma sheepdog, a livestock guardian breed from Italy. They are usually solid white dogs. But not Sirius, he was born with spots. When Sirius was two months old, Mercury was born on the farm. Mercury is a blue-eyed miniature horse. He has spots too, and an unusual color pattern with three white legs and one dark leg, one white ear and one dark ear. Mercury and Sirius became instant friends. The Pet Detectives are a seven-year-old English Labrador named Jaxxs, a ten-year-old yellow American Labrador named Blizzard, and an eleven-year-old black English Labrador named Coopah! Their petmom is Lisa Smith Putnam{LSP}, and together they make up Lisa and the Pet Detectives. In this adventure, the Pet Detectives save the day when they become lost on a camping trip.

When Gary Waterman was in the hospital being treated for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, he decided to “write a book about how a family who was steadfastly a one-dog family came to own six dogs.” His wife Betsy didn’t really expect him to do it. But to her surprise, the book was half finished when he died. She promised him she would finish the book, but it took much longer, and more courage, than she ever imagined. Their individual voices blend in a beautiful story of love, dogs, and skijoring.
